HEALING HANDS FOR HAITI

SUPPORT HAITI

WITH EDINA FAMILY PHYSICIANS OWN

DR JAMES ROHDE

Dr. Rohde, a founding physician of Edina Family Physicians, is an advocate and member of ‘Healing Hands for Haiti’. He has provided leadership for ‘Healing Hands for Haiti’ and on the fund-raising committee for the construction of a new physical medicine and rehabilitation institution to treat patients with disabilities near Port Au Prince, Haiti.  If all goes according to plan, the hospital is slated to open in late 2010.

However, with the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, the need for a facility of this type is even greater. With the destruction of the present ‘Healing Hands for Haiti’ buildings, there is an urgency to begin the cleanup of the location and begin to build the new facility as soon as possible.

Edina Family Physicians encourages your support for ‘Healing Hands for Haiti’ to supply the people of Haiti with daily necessities, such as water, food and shelter and to help this group build the new rehabilitation hospital.

You are invited to attend the HEALING HANDS FOR HAITI fund raising event being held in Bloomington on Thursday, January 28 at the Knights of Columbus hall from 7:00 to 10:00 PM located near 494 & Lyndale Ave So.

If you are unable to join us, you can help by making a donation when you click on the Donate button on the website and specify “Haiti Earthquake Response Fund”, or you can use the link below.

Following are some excerpts from the Healing Hands for Haiti website:

January 12, 2010 - Haiti suffered a devastating earthquake with the tragedy which occurred today. The need for a new hospital is greater than ever.  Healing Hands for Haiti knows that in the coming days the number of persons with disabilities will grow dramatically.

On January 13, 2009 – It was reported that the Port au Prince Headquarters Facilities of Healing Hands for Haiti International was severely damaged by the quake.

January 15, 2010

Our greatest need is for immediate cash for basic needs and assistance for our rehab community, including: fuel, food, shelter and water... and funds to begin the process of getting operational as soon as possible to provide care to those injured and disabled. Our goal is to rebuild the rehabilitation clinic and start the planned construction of Haiti’s first physical medicine and rehabilitation institution.

January 17, 2010

Al Ingersoll, a Minnesota prosthetic consultant and board member of “Healing Hands for Haiti”, left for Port au Prince, Haiti to help coordinate efforts to re-organize the work site and plans for “Healing Hands for Haiti”.

Dr. Rohde will make his next trip to Haiti when the Minnesota team is able to resume their work in Port au Prince, probably in the next 2 months.
